Mapping out Google Earth
By Malose Wa Ga Lamola
There was never going to be any other perfect moment for Teko Modise to hang up his Puma sponsored boots than the just ended season. Modise could have still played one more season- but he saw it beffiting to call it a day and we ought to respect his willingness- to leave the stage when he is still a star.
No matter how a good dancer you are- you are bound to leave the stage at some point. Good things come to an end after all. Google Earth will undoubtedly remain in the memories of the football lovers as the orchestrator of the piano. Memories are the only things that never fade away and thankfully Modise has created great ones.
Making history is a priveledge never lost. Modise remains the most decorated footballer in South Africa- with his clean sweep of domestic titles and the major one- the Caf champions league title as well as the super cup. His glittering career saw The General doing everything double as better.
Modise can now watch other footballers battling it out for recognition at the awards. He is the only player to win the player of the season accolade back to back. If once is good then twice is better- Modise has worn Bafana Bafana colours 66-times. Maybe one six would have not done justice to the great master hence he settled for double-sixes.
It was'nt easy as he had to battle the 'bad luck carrier' tag for the better part of his career. He prevailed to become one of the golden boys in South African football. Modise was the subtle engine of the teams he passionately played for. Modise ascended to higher level of football and assumed he was tailored to govern the game like a dictator.
Modise was not blessed with pace but his artistic control of the ball made him a standout performer for too long. Twisting his fingers as he seductively releases the ball that smoothley mowes the lawn on it's way to the intended receipient. The dead ball specialist- who made it a routine to count his steps backward- as he pumps his only trusted right foot. The charming pose he pulled as he awaits the referee to blow the whistle- could bring ladies from Diepkloof- to orgasm by just starring at him.
A culture orientated Thohoyandou that respects and obey their kings- was a perfect setting for the farewell of a 'King' that will never be erased from our memories. Ndaa Nduna!!!
