Supersport United have established themselves as cup specialist in recent years, playing their third MTN8 final on the bounce, at the weekend speaks volume of the Tshwane based outfit.

Last season finalists have finally get their grip of the heavy metal. Dethroning Cape Town City wasn't going to be easy as Supersport had to put a stubborn Highlands Park to the sword. It was Matsatsantsa's night to leave their finger prints on the MTN8 title again.

Despite being on the losing side, Highlands Park has put in a good shift, using their pace to good effect and threatened to seal the game in the first half. The Lions of the North created enough chances but stage fright got the better of them.

Supersport proved to be the big boys and their experience in finals came to the fore. Kaitano Tembo won his first piece of silverware in his maiden season as a coach. The South African under-23 internationals of Teboho Mokoena and Sipho Mbule were outstanding in the middle of the park. The former took a three-querter pace on the right flank, marrinated it with a quality cross, that Bradler Grobler headed home to seal the game.

Highlands Park have punched over their weight and can only build from there. Owen Da Gama has put together a formidable side that can compete at the highest level. Glad Africa Championship won't have Highlands not anytime soon. There could be only one winner on Saturday evening but both sides have put in good shifts.

Supersport are the 'Cup Specialists' of the new era.
